Abruzzo's 130-km Adriatic coastline is characterised by long flat sandy beaches, historic coastal pine forests and gently shelving water that is ideal for families. Blue Flag beaches are concentrated along two stretches: the Teramano riviera — Silvi Marina, Pineto with its centuries-old pineta nature reserve, and Roseto degli Abruzzi — and the Vastese around Vasto and San Salvo, where water quality consistently exceeds national benchmarks. Relatively uncrowded compared with the more developed Adriatic riviera to the north, Abruzzo is one of the Italian Adriatic's best-kept secrets.

In 2026, Abruzzo has 16 Blue Flag municipalities across 4 provinces: about 6% of the 257 awarded in Italy. Unchanged from 2025.
