Blue Flag Beaches in Molise 2026: Termoli and Campomarino, Award-Winning Sea Between the Adriatic and the Tremiti Islands

In Molise, 2026 sees 2 municipalities awarded the Blue Flag, the international recognition the FEE grants each year to destinations that meet strict criteria for bathing water quality, environmental management, services and safety. Molise has only about 35 km of Adriatic coastline, running from the mouth of the Trigno river on the Abruzzo border to the mouth of the Saccione on the Apulia border. It is the shortest coast of any Italian region, and it has two Blue Flag beaches, both in the province of Campobasso: {{Termoli}} and {{Campomarino}}.

Termoli and its headland

Termoli is the best-known seaside resort in Molise. The town is built around a headland that juts out into the Adriatic, with the old town and its Swabian castle overlooking the water. The beaches to the north and south of the headland are sandy, with shallow water that deepens gradually, and the stretches closest to town are backed by a seafront promenade and beach clubs. Ferries and hydrofoils to the Tremiti Islands leave from the port.

The middle stretch: the Biferno river mouth

Between Termoli and Campomarino the coast is much less built up. This is where the Biferno river reaches the sea, and the river mouth and the shoreline down to Campomarino are protected as an EU Site of Community Importance, known as "Foce Biferno – Litorale di Campomarino". The landscape is one of sand, dunes and coastal vegetation. The two Blue Flag resorts are about 20 km apart by coast road, so it is easy to visit both in a single day.

Campomarino and the border with Apulia

Campomarino marks the south-eastern end of the Molise coast, just before the mouth of the Saccione, which forms the border with Apulia. Lido di Campomarino has a wide sandy beach with dunes behind it and shallow water, which suits families. It is quieter than Termoli, which you can reach in under half an hour and which remains the better base for services and evenings out.

The coast falls into three stretches: the Termoli headland with its old town, the central shoreline around the mouth of the Biferno river, and the Campomarino area running down to the border with Apulia. The two Blue Flag beaches are about 20 km apart.

Where do the boats to the Tremiti Islands leave from?
